01About this policy
SYD Mortgage Management (Credit Representative 493472, authorised under Australian Credit Licence 553135) is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and Part IIIA of the Privacy Act and the Credit Reporting Code, which govern credit information.
This policy explains what personal and credit information we collect, why we collect it, how we hold, use and disclose it, and how you can access it or complain.
02Information we collect
Identity and contact details: name, date of birth, address, phone, email, residency or visa status, driver licence, passport and Medicare details.
Financial details: employment and income (payslips, tax returns, BAS), assets, liabilities, living expenses, bank statements and property details.
Credit information: credit reports and scores, repayment history, defaults and existing credit applications.
Sensitive information only with your consent and where relevant — for example health details for hardship or insurance referrals.
Website data: enquiry form submissions, and technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages visited collected through cookies.
03How we collect it
Mostly directly from you — in meetings, by phone, email, our online forms and document uploads. With your consent we may also collect information from your employer, accountant, referrer, lenders, valuers and credit reporting bodies.
04Why we use it
To understand your needs, compare and recommend suitable loans, prepare and lodge applications, and help manage your loan after settlement.
To meet our legal obligations, including responsible lending and the Best Interests Duty under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009, and identity verification under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006.
To send you rate reviews, updates and offers. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
05Who we disclose it to
Lenders and mortgage insurers you apply with; our credit licensee and aggregator; credit reporting bodies (Equifax, illion and Experian); valuers, settlement agents and conveyancers; insurers or advisers we refer you to with consent; IT, CRM and document storage providers; and regulators or courts where the law requires.
Some service providers store data on overseas servers (for example in the United States, Singapore or the Philippines). We take reasonable steps to ensure they handle your information consistently with the APPs.
06Credit reporting
With your consent, lenders may obtain your credit report from a credit reporting body to assess your application. You can ask a credit reporting body not to use your information for pre-screening of direct marketing, and to apply a ban period if you believe you have been a victim of fraud.
07Storage and security
We keep information in secure, access-controlled systems with encryption and multi-factor authentication. We are required to retain credit records for at least seven years; after that, or when no longer needed, we securely destroy or de-identify them.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
08Access, correction and cookies
You can request access to, or correction of, the information we hold about you. We will respond within 30 days and generally won't charge a fee.
Our website uses cookies to remember your language choice and understand how the site is used. You can disable cookies in your browser, although some features may not work.
